Words, How Much They Mean.

The power of words never ceases to amaze me. Words can build fortresses and tear down walls, they can create ideas and crush dreams, words give influence to those considered insignificant. Person after person has catalogued their beliefs, their societies, and their passions- but not with the intent of becoming famous. They wrote because they felt. This is one reason why I feel so strongly about reading and writing. You don’t have to possess a divine talent in order to write. All you have to do is feel.
So, on that note, here are some of the most raw, feel-y books I’ve ever read.

1.The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
No book list is ever complete without a World War II novel. The Book Thief is nonpareil in every category, but especially the ‘raw feeling’ one. It’s a tackle straight to the heart.

2. Persuasion by Jane Austen.
Jane Austen’s last- and saddest- novel. It’s a story about loss, smart women, and how illogical the logical choice can actually be.

3. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
Okay, I was obsessed with this book freshman year, and regardless of its tainted reputation as a required school reading book, it’s amazing.

4.Life of Pi by Yann Martel.
Life of Pi is basically like The Kite Runner, minus the emotional scarring. The novel follows Pi, a young Indian boy growing up and making his way in the world. It’ll change your view on the world, and maybe even your heart.

5. The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch.
My mom read The Last Lecture to me when I was twelve years old, and I have been continually reminded of it throughout the years. It’s the memoir of Professor Randy Pausch, who after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, was given six months to live. Don’t get all pouty on me now, though! Pausch’s memoir is much more concerned with making every day count than receiving your pity. Randy Pausch is witty and intelligent, so his novel makes for a quick read that will leave you wanting to design computer programs and head-fake college students.
