Valentines Outfit Tips + Tricks

It is L O V E week, and if I haven’t already lost my mind in the heart-shaped clouds, you can count on it being completely gone by Friday. I love Valentine’s Day—partly because it’s short-term justification for my corny behavior, hand-painted cards, and rom-com movie marathon tendencies—but also because it gives me an excuse to show everyone I care about how much I love them.

Because I almost exclusively buy black clothes (I’m working on branching out lolz), it’s hard to put together a festive Valentine’s outfit without looking like I hate love. I had planned on buying some red or pink trousers and pairing them with my basic black sweater when I remembered that I already own the perfect Valentine’s Day sweater.

Credit where credit is due: my mother bought me this sweater (if you’re reading this, Ma, I love you!), and I really really really love it, but I haven’t worn it in forever because it was covered in pills. But I wasn’t going to let pills ruin my cute Valentine’s day outfit, so I went to Target and bought one of those nifty Conair pill/lint removers, and it has changed my life. I can wear half of my sweaters again!

But on to more important stuff… Vals Day is all about being thankful for love in every area of your life, and I find that dressing for the occasion always helps your spirit grow. So here are some easy, casual, dress up or down Valentine’s outfit tips!

  • Don’t wear pink and red… if you don’t like to wear pink and red. You should never buy something you’ll never wear again! If pink and red aren’t your clothing colors of choice, then opt for some sweet neutrals with pink or red lipstick.

  • Accessorize. You can barely see it, but I have a velvet scrunchie in my hair that’s the perfect splash of pink. Scrunchies, ribbons, and any other pink or red accessories you have lying around are all great ways to create a cute Valentine’s hairstyle. Honorable mentions include pink and red earrings, shoes, and of course, handbags.

  • Go stand in your closet and find some inspiration. I was pretty desperately scrolling through listings on Poshmark when I thought I was going to have to buy something to wear for Valentine’s Day. Thankfully, I remembered what I already had and didn’t end up having to quickly buy something. The enemy of mindful shopping is last-minute shopping, so if you think it’s too late to buy something you really love, then go with what you already have.

  • Wear socks with sandals or other random shoes, because it’s my favorite trend right now and deserves some affirmation.

At the end of the day, Val’s Day is Gal’s Day, Family Day, Friends Day and Watch A Really Good Movie Day, so make someone around you feel loved, and enjoy it the way you want to.

Lovelovelove,

Emma
