Summer fashion 2020 - the sustainable edit

Here’s the thing about summer fashion… it’s not easy.

As far as I’m concerned, dressing stylishly for steamy hot days is a fine art. It takes a bit of finesse but with some practical tips and a goal in mind, we can all have a stylish summer (sans sweaty pits).

So here’s how you and I will make it through summer in style…

  • we’ll wear the right fabrics.

  • we’ll buy clothes we actually like.

  • we’ll be mindful shoppers.

It sounds simple, but you and I know it’s not, especially if you live in a place where summer is especially balmy. Looking cute while avoiding sweat-inducing fabrics is hard. Wearing Nike shorts everyday isn’t! But I really need more in my life than purple Nike shorts, so here’s what I’m wearing this summer:

  • Skirts, because jeans have officially left the building. After wearing skirts almost everyday for school, I think I just assumed they weren’t for me. Well, it turns out plaid uniform skirts aren’t for anyone, and I should’ve given them a shot way before now.

  • Puff-sleeved blouses, because they’re breezy and cute. There’s nothing worse than a clingy cotton top on a hot summer day, which is why puffy sleeves and a breathable fabric make a great combo.

  • Button-ups, because they’re easy to layer over tank tops or camis but don’t add any unnecessary weight. I have a short-sleeve white flannel from madewell that is so cozy and thin—it’s perfect for throwing on over a tank top and shorts. I’ve worn it so much this summer!

  • Dresses, because once again, SO underrated. My whole life, I’ve avoided dresses because I thought they weren’t practical. How wrong was I?!

The two brands I’ve been buying summer clothes from this year are mango and everlane. For a fast fashion brand, Mango makes cute clothes that are affordable and easy to find on resale sites like Poshmark or Depop. The puff sleeved top I’m wearing in these photos is Mango via Poshmark.

Everlane has dropped so many cute summer pieces in the past few months, including this puff sleeved blouse, easy chino shorts and dreamy square-toed espadrilles. I’ll be searching for this stuff on a resale site before I buy any of it brand new, but I can’t wait to add some of these pieces to my summer wardrobe.

Your turn! What are you trying to add to your wardrobe this summer?
