Customized denim jacket: the final product

If you follow me on Instagram, then you know that I’ve been customizing a denim jacket for my friend, Maddie. She bought it when we were out thrifting, and we both knew it had the potential to be a super cool piece.

^ Here are some progress pics. I wasn’t quite sure how it was going to turn out, or I would’ve documented more of the process.

Maddie wanted the jacket to reflect her style, which is classy with some edge. She sent me a few pictures of elements she liked off of Pinterest, and I based my additions off of them. I sewed on the star patches and studded the sleeves with some simple matte black studs that I found at Hobby Lobby. It took 3 rounds of bleaching and one destroyed shirt to get the denim just right—an acid-washed, semi-splotchy look that perfectly flows with Maddie’s studded loafers and black skinny jeans.

I’ve got an itch to do another project like this… Maybe for myself this time? I love how unique and cool a piece of clothing can be. To make this jacket special for Maddie, I embroidered her initials on the front pockets (you can’t see the “M” because her hair is covering it) in white thread. It’s original to her, and something I’m so proud of creating.
