Why I'm Quitting Social Media

Happy Valentines Dayyyy!! Warning, this post is a little deep....

Last week, I was in a bad place. I was sad, stressed out, and extremely anxious. I kept scrolling on Instagram, Pinterest, and even Twitter in an attempt to get rid of the growing pit of misunderstood emotion in my stomach.

This hasn't always been my norm--actually, it wasn't even a part of my life until the fall of 2015 when I found out I had a tumor on my right ovary. Ever since then, I've struggled off and on with depression and anxiety.

Losing my ovary and being diagnosed with depression were both important moments in my life, but I have fought very hard not to let them consume me. I grew so much during that period of my life, and God was so faithful to me throughout it and even now. I've been able to share my story of God's love in dark moments with so many girls as a result of this experience--it's truly living redemption.

BUT back to the topic of discussion... I've decided to take a little break from Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest for the next two weeks so that I can unwind. Anxiety UK recently conducted a study on how social media affects anxiety and stress-levels, and I couldn't believe some of the stats--not because they weren't realistic, but because I felt like it was describing my rather dysfunctional relationship with social media.

You might be feeling the same way, too, and that's why I thought it was so important for me to share why I'm doing this. I want you to know it's okay to need a break; no one can be Insta-perfect all the time. I know I'm definitely not.

During this social media break, I am handing over control of my social media sites to my boyf, Garrison, who I trust to take care of things just as well, if not better, than I do. I will still be posting on EM throughout my break because let's be honest, I love you guys too much to be away for too long!

If you have any questions about taking a break from social media, please leave them in the comments below//shoot me an email. I'd love to chat with you :)

xx, Em.
